why I keep falling in love with turkey

THE TRAVEL ENTHUSIAST

The first time I visited, I was completely taken in by the color, the history, the kindness of the people, and yes, the food. Since then, I’ve had the chance to explore some unforgettable spots—Istanbul, Pamukkale, Ephesus, and Bodrum—and each one offered something different and beautiful. But there’s still so much more of the country I’m eager to discover, and I want to share it with you.

If you’re looking for a destination that’s rich in culture, bursting with flavor, and full of those unexpected “wow” moments, Turkey deserves a place on your list.

Istanbul: A City You Feel, Not Just Visit

Of all the places I’ve been, Istanbul is still my favorite city in the world. There’s something about standing on a street corner where East meets West—literally—and hearing the call to prayer echo over the Bosphorus that gives you chills in the best way.

The mix of ancient mosques, buzzing bazaars, modern rooftop cafes, and neighborhoods filled with life is like nowhere else. One minute you’re admiring the Hagia Sophia, and the next you’re wandering a quiet backstreet lined with colorful houses and flower pots. It’s vibrant, layered, and full of life.

Pamukkale: Like Walking on the Moon (But Better)

I’ll never forget my first glimpse of Pamukkale’s white terraces—it honestly looked like snow at first, even though the weather was warm. These natural travertine pools, filled with warm mineral water, are soothing, surreal, and somehow otherworldly.

Right above the terraces sits Hierapolis, an ancient Roman spa town where you can wander through ruins and even swim over columns in Cleopatra’s Pool. The whole experience feels like a dream.

Ephesus: Where History Comes Alive

If you love history, Ephesus will blow you away. Walking through the ancient streets here—seeing the Library of Celsus, the massive amphitheater, and those intricately carved columns—it’s hard not to imagine what life was like in one of the greatest cities of the ancient world.

It’s well-preserved, easy to explore, and truly one of the most impressive archaeological sites I’ve ever visited.

Bodrum: Coastal Charm and Crystal Water

For a more relaxed vibe, Bodrum has that perfect blend of beach town energy and historical charm. The harbor is lined with boats and sea breezes, and the old castle and local markets give you a little bit of culture with your sunshine. It’s a great spot to unwind, sip something cold, and watch the sailboats drift by.

Cappadocia: Still on My List—But Here’s What You Should Know

I haven’t made it to Cappadocia yet, but it’s very high on my list—and for good reason. This region is famous for its fairy chimneys, rock-hewn homes, and those iconic hot air balloons at sunrise.

But it’s not just for photos. Cappadocia has underground cities, cave churches, and hiking trails through valleys that look like something from another planet. It’s a mix of adventure, history, and wonder—and I can’t wait to experience it for myself.

The Turquoise Coast: Your Mediterranean Daydream

Stretching along the Aegean and Mediterranean, Turkey’s Turquoise Coast is dotted with charming towns, hidden beaches, and views that’ll stop you in your tracks. While I’ve only scratched the surface, towns like Kas, Fethiye, and Antalya are known for their laid-back feel, incredible food, and turquoise waters perfect for swimming, sailing, or doing absolutely nothing.

You can even explore the coast by gulet, a traditional wooden boat—slow travel at its finest.

The Magic of Turkish Food

Let’s talk about the food. I still daydream about the fresh bread, spiced meats, crisp vegetables, and those endless little plates of meze. Whether you’re trying manti (tiny dumplings topped with yogurt and spices), a slice of warm pide, or a piece of melt-in-your-mouth baklava, the flavors are rich and comforting.

And of course, you have to try a cup of Turkish tea or coffee—preferably with a view.

There’s More of Turkey to Discover

There are still parts of the country I’m eager to explore—places like Mount Ararat, the Black Sea region, and lesser-known interior towns filled with culture and tradition. That’s what I love about Turkey: even after you’ve visited, it keeps calling you back.

It’s not just beautiful—it’s fascinating. It’s not just a destination—it’s a full experience.
